A grown-up is responsible for choosing safe places, helping with the account and deciding whether a child should use the camera.

Apple licence terms

These are additional service, safety, account and purchase terms from Lightning Developments Limited. They do not replace the Apple Standard End User License Agreement, which governs the licence to use the iOS app where it applies. If these terms conflict with that agreement on an Apple-licensed or Apple-billed matter, Apple's agreement applies to that matter. Rights that cannot lawfully be excluded continue to apply.

Using the app

These terms apply when a grown-up allows a child to use Sophie's Treasure Hunt. You must use the app lawfully, follow venue rules and supervise play in a way that suits the child's age and surroundings.

The app is a game, not a safety, navigation, emergency, education or professional-advice service. Skip or stop whenever real-world conditions make a clue unsuitable.

Accounts and acceptable use

  • Use a non-identifying username and keep the password and recovery links private.
  • Photograph the treasure. Avoid exposed private information, illegal content or unsafe situations. If people happen to be in the image, the checker is instructed to ignore them and never identify or analyse them.
  • Do not attempt to defeat photo checks, forge scores, probe other accounts or interfere with the service.
  • Community is for known friends. A grown-up should approve requests and may remove or block another username. There is no chat, photo sharing or location sharing.
  • Tell us through support if account security or unsafe content may be affected.

Availability and changes

We may correct unsafe challenges, suspend a feature during an outage, or restrict an account to protect users and service integrity. We will not permanently penalise a child solely because an automated photo check fails.

Max purchases and subscriptions

A grown-up may purchase Treasure Hunt Max through Apple's in-app purchase screen. Apple displays the current product, price, currency and billing period before the grown-up confirms a purchase. Max is available as monthly or yearly auto-renewable subscriptions and as a one-time lifetime purchase.

  • Apple charges the purchase to the grown-up's Apple Account. Lightning Developments Limited does not directly collect or control App Store payment details.
  • Monthly and yearly subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. A grown-up can view, manage or cancel them in the Apple Account subscription settings; deleting the app or a Sophie's Treasure Hunt account does not itself cancel an Apple subscription.
  • The lifetime option is a non-consumable in-app purchase. It is not an auto-renewable subscription.
  • Restore Purchase asks Apple and our purchase service to verify an eligible previous purchase and restore the corresponding Max entitlement. A Max entitlement linked to a Sophie's Treasure Hunt family account is separate from Apple Family Sharing.
  • Apple administers App Store billing, cancellations and refund requests. Refund eligibility is determined by Apple and applicable law.
  • If a subscription expires, or Apple refunds or revokes a transaction, Max access may end after the updated entitlement is verified. Free content and lawful privacy, access and deletion rights remain available.

Purchase, restore and subscription-management controls stay behind the grown-up gate. RevenueCat processes purchase and entitlement information as described in the privacy policy.

Privacy, ownership and deletion

The privacy policy explains data handling. A grown-up can request permanent deletion through the app or the public deletion page.

Lightning Developments Limited and its licensors retain rights in the app, catalogue, characters and artwork. These terms do not transfer those rights or limit rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

New Zealand law

These terms are governed by New Zealand law. Nothing here excludes or limits rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, Fair Trading Act 1986, Privacy Act 2020 or any other right that cannot lawfully be excluded.
